“Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” Ps 105:1
The small group Bible study that my wife and I attended always began each study with the question, “What good thing happened in your life since we last met?” Everyone is given the opportunity to share something from their life’s journey.
After some personal introspection, many of the responses were, “Everything’s good, but no particular instance of God’s grace. Or someone will share something big that happened in their life.
I like to fish. Ask a fisherman how his fishing trip went and his or her answer will be similar; it was good, or they will proceed to tell you about what they caught, how big it was, what it was caught on…lots of details.
Yesterday in your life…was it just a good day? Recall what evolved just at the beginning. Got up, ate breakfast, kissed the wife and kids (if you’re married), got in the truck or car and went off to work, or maybe you just managed the many other tasks of everyday life.
Let’s look at it again…
God gave me another day – “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” 1 Chron. 16:34
I had food to eat – “Now, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name.” 1 Chron 29:13
I have a great family and friends – “I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.” Ps. 28-7
The truck/car started, I have light to see by, cooling or heating – “that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.” Ps 30:12
And I have a job – “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.” Ps 105: 1
Maybe, like me, you piled the fishing tackle in the back of your vehicle and went fishing – “We give thanks to you, O God, we give thanks, for your Name is near; men tell of your wonderful deeds.” Ps 75:1
Heavenly Father, you have given all of us very special lives. We have so many blessings that are taken for granted, really big things. I am thankful in all things and give you praise in all things, looking forward to what the next “big” thing will be in my life.
